Hey folks, friendly reminder to not drink and drive because holy fuck do some people not get the memo. Don’t let yourself or friends end up in handcuffs or worse because of one poor decision.

A friend of mine always says, “There isn’t a problem alchohol couldn't make worse.” Haven't had a drink in over 10 years. Just decided I didn't want it poisoning my mind and body. Plus, I didn't want my kids to normalize it by seeing me drink.

I did the same after finding myself i n jail for drunk driving. My son was 1 at the time and I got real scared real fast. Haven’t had a drink in about 9 years and it’s been pretty great.

That’s great! Funny, I decided after my son was born. He was 8 weeks premature and my wife almost died. Decided that day that I needed to have a clear mind and body to take care of my family. Both wife and son are fine but I'm not going to go back to drinking.

Sitting a jail cell thinking about how much I let down this kid who had not done anything to deserve that was a pretty humbling experience. The rest has been great. I drank heavily for 20 years and I can’t name a single good thing to have come of it. Not one.

A little rehab, a little AA and a lot of admitting I was the problem and not the solution has made my life a lot more fun.

The neighborhood bar I used to hang out at in the Before Times had somebody on DUI #2. Getting the picture about maybe having a serious problem with self-control required a scare about possible real jail time, a bunch of alcohol classes, months of trying to get around without a car in a place with almost no mass transit , an ankle monitor, and a breathalyzer lock on the ignition after getting the license back .

During all of it that I saw, she always had an “I really fucked up and now I have to deal with it ” attitude. On the other hand, I kept hearing other people tell her “ cops are assholes” and “ everybody gets a DUI” . It’s not totally surprising because it was a dive bar full of lost souls, but really? It’s probably not a coincidence that I don’t miss seeing any of those people, but wouldn’t mind saying hi to her again one of these days .

I had two years of drinking heavily when I had Russian roommates 20 years ago. We were professional alcoholics. I moved out because as much as I liked my friends, I didn’t want to become an alcoholic. No regrets .

I know I sleep better, think better, deal with stress better, and can observe life better without alcohol. All of my friends drink and I don’t mind when they do . It took them a few years of asking me if I wanted a drink at parties and restaurants and me saying “nope" to figure out I’m not going back to drinking. It just isn’t for me and I hope my kids never do.

Ugh. I hope whoever you got was just put in handcuffs and not worse.

People do stupid things.  Unfortunately that’s probably permanent.

I used to put in the alcohol interlocks in cars here. ‘B out a 50/50 split between people being embarrassed and people who show up angry at you for the governmet intrusion  into their booze-cruising.  It’s a major cultural problem here.

Being drunk increases your lap times by at least 12%

Holy fuck is it ever. I’ve met people with 3+ impaired convictions and they’ve still driving drunk.

No deaths tonight, which I’m thankful for . Worst day of work involved an impaired driving death. Some day I might share that story.

You know it. Multiple people at the Buffalo Inn for the night for poor life choices.

Good stuff. I’m the only non-drinker at work, which leads to the occasional ribbing, but my friends are always happy to have a guaranteed sober ride.

Another reason why I love my van. If I can’t get a ride home or walk to a place to stay, I’ll sleep  on my mat tress in the back of the van. Keys out of the ignition of course.

Oh definitely. I won’t even put them in my pocket when I sleep. Ill stash em under the mattress or in the glove box.

Had a few run ins with the police doing this. Most of them thought it was humorous, but smart. One wasn’t feeling it, and volunteered to drive me home.
